A young married couple and their little son Joachim live a bucolic life until one night when Joachim sees three shadows on horseback outside the window. But it isn’t just a bad dream because his loving parents see them too. Soon it becomes clear that the shadows won’t leave until claiming their prize…little Joachim. Should his parents try to make the most of their time together or attempt to trick fate? Pedrosa created this moving and powerful graphic novel in response to a real life tragedy. His background in animation comes across in the fluid black and white drawings and his unique handwriting. Translated from the French.

Our copies are in the adult section, but Booklist lists it as grades 9-12 and it was a finalist in the 2008 Cybils.
